OUR HISTORY

A Church Determined to Live by Faith

...a church where the unchurched will feel encouraged, embraced, and engaged.

Reverend Gary G. Johnson Sr., Emma Duncan and Naomi Lyde came together for the first meeting which was held at 3912 Glen Hunt Road, Baltimore Maryland 21229 at 2:00 pm on May 26, 1996. Rev. Johnson openly shared with Sis. Duncan and Sis. Lyde for the first time God’s vision for him to start a church.

Rev. Johnson explained the name FAITH CHRISTIAN WORSHIP CENTER came about as a direct reflection of the Holy Spirit moving in his life. It was in 1996 when the Holy Spirit instructed Rev. Johnson to organize a church for God. God gave Rev. Johnson the vision to “Rise Up and Build” a church that would be built on Faith, the Word of God, and Evangelism. Fully assured that God has commissioned him to “Rise up and Build”, Rev. Johnson accepted the task humbly, obediently, and reverently from the Lord, believing that as a child of God he can do all things through Christ who gives him strength.

As a result of Pastor Johnson’s obedience to the Lord, Faith Christian Worship Center had its first worship Service on July 20, 1996, in the auditorium of Harlem Park Elementary School. We praise God for the 150 people who were in attendance on that Sunday to help glorify the name of the Lord.

After being able to worship at Harlem Park for almost four months, the Holy Spirit led Faith Christian Worship Center to our next location, which was Rosemont Elementary School. While at Rosemont Elementary School we fellowshipped for three years, and God continued to show his presence by allowing our congregation to grow and work with the children in the school and the community.

In September of 1999, Faith Christian Worship Center, also known as FCWC was blessed again to lease an actual church building at 3811 Egerton Road, (Adams Chapel). FCWC continued to worship at Adams Chapel for nearly six years. At this location, there were over two hundred members on roll.

Immaculate Conception Catholic Church located at 1512 Druid Hill Avenue served as the next location for worship services as we searched for a building to call home. FCWC purchased its own building in October 2005. The church was located at 700 North Pulaski Street. The inaugural service was held on Sunday, May 21, 2006, at 10:30am. On Sunday, June 10, 2012, we moved from worshipping in the fellowship hall to the Sanctuary which sat over 300 people.

While we thought this was our final location to do ministry, God had another plan. During the pandemic, we learned our building would be taken by Amtrak using eminent domain. After more than a year of negotiations, God blessed us mightily with our current place of worship. We sold 700 N. Pulaski St. in April of 2023 and was allowed to continue worshiping rent free through May of 2024. We purchased our current building at 5260 Reisterstown Rd., in November of 2023 and was able to move in, in December of 2024. During the interim, we worshipped at the Chatman Harris Funeral Home just a few doors down. We thank God for the experience of bringing life to our neighboring funeral home, for opening the door for a lifelong partnership, for placing us on a main street of a great inner-city community, and, of course, for our beautiful edifice to glorify the name of our Lord.

Pastor Johnson thanks God, for all these wonderful things and promises, along with the members of Faith Christian Worship Center, to carry out the mission which is ... “To win the whole world to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

FCWC will continue to grow warmer through fellowship, deeper through discipleship, stronger through worship, broader through ministry, and larger through evangelism. It is the Vision of Faith Christian Worship Center “to be a church where the unchurched will feel encouraged, embraced, and engaged.”
